Favorite Beauty Innovations

Beauty has come a long way in the years since women first started putting lipstick on. There are new products being released daily and brands are sprouting up all over the place; it can be hard to keep track of every new item that hits shelves in Sephora & Ulta.

In the midst of all the lipsticks and foundations being released, there are a handful of gems that really stand out among the crowd. These are items that made a splash when they were released because they were so completely different from anything else on the market.

I’ll even define them as beauty innovations because they created an entire new category for other brands to follow suit.

  1. Dry Shampoo: Believe it or not there was a time before there was actual dry shampoo that you could buy in the drugstore or your favorite high end retailer. There was the old baby powder, corn starch, trick to absorb oil but nothing that was ever canned and sold. The first kind to ever be released was Minipoo in the 1940s, but it’s been on the rise for the past 10 or so years. Now, everyone from Redken to DryBar has dry shampoo; we’re now even getting dry conditioner!
  2. In Shower Body Lotion: This is probably my favorite innovation yet. These came on the scene a few years ago and the first mainstream one was put out by Nivea; other drugstore brands soon followed suit. The idea is genius: a body lotion you put on in the shower while you’re skin is still wet, and then rinse off. There is no need to apply sticky lotion or oil post shower, and then wait for it to seep into your skin. It becomes an extra shower step and it’s genius!
  3. Cover Fx Custom Cover Drops: These surely made a splash in the beauty industry when they were released a few years ago. Made by the team over at Cover Fx, these Custom Cover Drops are described as pure pigments to add to your foundation, moisturizer, primer, and all other liquid makeup products. They can heighten  coverage and add color to non colored liquids like moisturizers and primers. Basically, you can create your own foundation without a lab!
  4. Kiss INSTAWAVE Automatic Curler: Personally, this is something I’ve owned for 3 years and I can’t imagine my life without it. I am not good at curling my hair; using a regular curling iron does not work for me because I don’t know how. When this came into my life, everything was changed. It’s an automatic curling iron so all you need to do is turn it on, hold it vertically next to your hair, and the curler will gently grab your hair and curl it around the barrel. It’s not as scary as it sounds and you can watch a tutorial here. It truly makes curling your hair easier than ever!

As for a Laura Geller beauty innovation, I’ve been obsessing over our new Quench-n-Tint Hydrating Foundation that launched on QVC this week. It’s a mix between a tinted moisturizer, BB Cream, and foundation; it gives your skin an INSTANT (and I mean instant) burst of hydration, has sheer coverage, and blurs all imperfections. It’s genius and will be hitting retail stores this April!
